JOHNSTON COUNTY, OK – A teenaged camp counselor at Camp Bond north of Tishomingo in Johnston County died in a 4-wheeler accident Tuesday afternoon.

Camp officials say Robert Logan Anderson had gone off on his own for a quick ride on an atv when the accident occurred.

As Thursday afternoon faded into evening vehicles continued rolling in and out of Camp Bond, paying their respects and grieving with the entire camp that's owned and operated by the Church of the Nazerene.

"This is just one of those freak things that happen," said Terry Rowland, Area Superintendent. He oversees the operations at Camp Bond. Rowlandsays the atv accident that killed 17-year-old Robert Logan Anderson was a tragic accident.

"Logan was riding on a 4-wheeler," Rowland said. "He came up to a road on our camp ground that has kinda a ramp and went over that ramp, flew off of it and landed over the embankment and into a creek. Terrible accident."

According to the OHP report, Anderson fell to his death inside the private camp. Troopers say the 17-year-old hit a makeshift gaurdrail while driving an atv and fell down 18 feet into a rocky creekbed. OHP says Anderson was not wearing a helmet.

"Should it have been different? Yeah it should have been different. I should have been a whole lot different. I suppose as long as we're alive we're going to have accidents and this is a tragic accident. But we've tried to do our best, in every way we know to try to do what's right in the safety aspects," Rowland said.

According to health officials at the Carter County Health Department, accidents or unintentional injuries are the number one killer of children ages 17 and younger. Rowland says they will continue to pray for Anderson's family.

"These kids deal with a lot of things in their life. We trust its a lesson for the rest of them. We hate that it happened this way, but we pray that tru it all that there will be some good out of it that will help in the future of their lives," said Rowland.

The OHP report cites unsafe speed, and inexperienced driver as the cause of the accident.
