Fans for Fannin County
BONHAM, TX -- For most of us summer time means cranking down the air conditioning and cranking up the utility bill, but for people without A/C, the summer can be an uncomfortable and even dangerous time of year. That's why the Bonham Police Department and the Fannin County Family Crisis Center have teamed up to help.

"We are having a fan drive to help those people in this hot weather.” said Becky Williams of the crisis center.
For the past 5 years the drive has been an annual event in Bonham, and they have given out hundreds of fans in that time.
"Well, conservatively, over the past 5 years we have given out 500, maybe even 700 fans out.” said Bonham police chief Mike Bankston.
The success of the fan drive depends solely on charitable donations from citizens.
"We do it strictly on donations, people donate money and we buy the fans, or people bring fans up here and we give them out.” said Bankston.
And as long as donations keep coming in, fans will keep going out.
"As long as it is really hot, and we get the money to get more fans we will continue as long as we have that", said Williams.
As anyone who has braved the summer heat in Texoma can tell you, a little "man-made" breeze is better than stagnant heat.
"I think it makes an impact, a lot of people think a fan doesn't do a whole lot let’s get air conditioning, but when you don’t have anything, you need something to move that air around, and so, it helps.” said Bankston.
