McBRIDE, OK -- First News is learning more about the man investigators say is responsible for an apparent murder-suicide in Marshall County Tuesday afternoon.
The Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation told First News Christine Pierson-Hooper, 83, was shot to death by her son Jeffrey Steven Hooper, 56. OSBI believes it was a murder suicide, but said the case is still open.
"Even though is appears to be a murder-suicide, the medical examiner's office will do an autopsy and determine the exact cause and manner of death,” said Jessica Brown, the spokeswoman for OSBI.
Officials with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice said this is not the first time Jeffrey Hooper has committed murder. Texas officials told First News Jeffrey Hooper was on parole and had a lengthy criminal history, including committing murder before
According to a spokeswoman with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Jeffrey Hooper was convicted of murder back in July of 1988. He was also convicted of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon in ‘89 and again in ‘91.
According to Texas records he was behind bars from 1991-2001. Officials said Jeffery Hooper only served 7 years of life sentence for murder.
The spokeswoman couldn't tell us Hooper's exact parole restrictions, why he was released early, or how he could have gotten a gun. But authorities in Texas say it is illegal for a convicted criminal to own a gun or carry one.
Neighbors say they knew Jeffrey Hooper was no stranger to crime.
"Something like that, I said her son must have - I knew he'd been in some trouble at one time and he was there,” said neighbor Pete Holland.
OSBI said the bodies remain with the state Medical Examiner, and are awaiting official autopsies.
