SHERMAN, TX -- Community leaders served their own servicemen and women at the 14th Annual Great Days of Service on Thursday in Sherman.
About 1,000 public servants like firefighters, police, and county workers came to the Christ Community Life Center for a free lunch.
The organizers of the 'Great Days of Service' say this event is in appreciation of all of the hard work that they do.
"It's just important to show how important they are in our community. We need to come together as a whole and be one community to make a difference," Great Days of Service director Sandy Garbacik says.
Community members are also collecting food items for Meals on Wheels on Friday. If you would like to donate you can do so by going to the First Baptist Gym in Sherman beginning at 10 a.m. Friday.
