GRAYSON COUNTY, TX -- Both Grayson County Sheriff Keith Gary and County Judge Drue Bynum say no decision has been made whether or not to privatize the county jail.

CLEAT, the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas, an organization representing several of the jailers, has released a statement asking Sheriff Gary not to privatize the jail. However, no decision has been made. CLEAT released another statement Thursday voicing their concerns about the issue to District Attorney Joe Brown.

Sheriff Gary says he did mention to his staff that if he and the commissioners cannot come to an agreement over privatization, then jail inmates could possibly be moved to jails in other counties, but that no decision regarding the future of the jail has been made.

Both the sheriff and Judge Bynum reiterate they plan to meet with Southwest Correctional, the private company which could eventually take control of the jail, on Monday, July 13. They say they hope to have a decision made that day.
