MARSHALL COUNTY, OK -- Everywhere across America people will celebrating the fourth of July tomorrow. But tonight in Marshall County the community will be able to celebrate together for the first time in two years.
"Last year it was in the middle of the sale between Pointe Vista and the state of Oklahoma, and we couldn't get the land," said Jeff Hudson, president of the Marshall County Chamber of Commerce.
With the Pointe Vista sale completed, Marshall County got the opportunity again to use the land just north of the Roosevelt Bridge. The peninsula rises above the bridge and creates a perfect location for fireworks.
"It's very unique, in fact Western Fireworks who puts on the show says it's their favorite location to shoot fireworks," said Ryan Chapman, president of the fireworks committee. "It's on the lake and the fall zone is in a place where people cannot get close."
There are 20 6-foot crates each containing 30 fireworks that will all be shot off within a minute. And with a total cost of $25,000, that's a going rate of $1,100 each minute.
"It's going to be the largest show in the county, it's probably going to be one of the largest ones in the lake texoma area," said Hudson.
A typical fireworks display costs about $15,000 dollars. Marshall County's fireworks show had cost just over $30,000 in the past, but organizers say that the recession didn't slow down the donations, as all the main donators contributed again. And with the show's preparations going so easily, Hudson expects big returns for the county.
"We're trying our best as a chamber of commerce to promote anything we can to bring folks back to the area."
