12-25-06 A fire in Colbert called firefighters away from their holiday celebrations and left them investigating the cause of the blaze. The owner of the Ray's Automotive building west of Colbert was enjoying Christmas with his family when he received a phone call telling him the vacant building was on fire.
Colbert volunteer fire chief Wade Jackson says they responded to the emergency call around 1:30 pm Monday. When they arrived at the scene off Highway 91 west of Colbert the building was fully engulfed. The Cartwright fire department was called for back-up. The ashes are smoldering now but the damage is a total loss. Chief Jackson said no one was in the building when the fire started. The owner of the building told firefighters the building has been vacant for about a year. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
