Family Seeks Help for Surgery

12-26-07 A Durant family is asking for help to save their child's life. 6-year-old Zack Weaver's left heart ventricle is enlarged and he will undergo a major procedure next week to correct the problem.

When he was born, doctors said it was a transitional heart murmur, but turned out to be aortic stenosis. The condition progressed into a condition called aortic regurgitation. They say if he doesn't have the surgery, his only other option would be a heart transplant. Without the surgery or transplant, Zack could die.

The family's insurance doesn't full cover medical costs, so they don't know if they can afford the surgery.

"It's terrifying watching him go through it," Chris Weaver, Zack's dad said. "I wouldn't wish it on anybody at all. It's a nightmare we hope will end soon with him being better. I wouldn't wish this on anyone."

Zack's surgery is scheduled for next Wednesday at a hospital in Dallas. If you would like to help the family, you can contact Chris Weaver at 580-380-5411. The family also set up a fund at the Shamrock Bank-Durant Branch. The bank is located at 3225 Shamrock Ln. Durant, OK 74701.
