DURANT, OK- A homicide in Durant has police looking for a suspect. Police say a man called 911 claiming he had been stabbed, but when authorities arrived on the scene it was already too late. Rita Kotey has the story.
“I drove by between 4 and 4:30 this morning, and I saw all this action going on," Ann Ogden says.
Ogden has lived in this neighborhood for about 20 years. She was concerned to hear that Jason Booker had been stabbed and killed near her home. Police say Booker called for help around 3 o'clock this morning, claiming he had been stabbed. They say his wife also called 9-1-1 asking for help for her husband.
"Officers whenever they arrived they found a 25-year old man deceased inside the residence," says Lieutenant Carrie Wyrick of the Durant Police Department said.
Wyrick says Booker was lying face down with multiple stab wounds. She says so far they have no one in custody but they do believe there is someone else involved. Wyrick says her department did not have a homicide case in Durant in 2008, and Booker's death is the first case for 2009.
"We try to step up our enforcement efforts. I mean you can't really prepare for a homicide, but we just do what we can," Wyrick said.
Ogden says she is relying on enforcement to keep her and her family safe.
"We've got at least two officers that live in the neighborhood so you'd think that would help a little," Ogden said.
She says she hopes that whoever is responsible for Booker's death is caught so that they do not endanger other residents in the neighborhood.
"I'm praying for all of them. I pray for the people who have done things because they do not know what they are doing,” Ogden said.
