Ardmore Commons Breaks Ground

1-5-07 For years Ardmore officials have been pushing for ways to keep shoppers from spending their money in Dallas or Oklahoma City. Friday afternoon officials hit the ground running with their long-term plan. Crews broke ground on what will soon be the Ardmore Commons Shopping Center. Mayor John Moore and developer Burk Collins revved up a bulldozer to kick off construction.

The 190,000 square foot facility will house an 8 screen movie theater and several restaurants including Logan's Roadhouse, Chili's. The center will also be home to Dunlaps Department store, Petco, and other retail stores. Money from the city's TIF plan and county sales tax revenue provided extra incentive to convince the Collins family to build in Ardmore. The project is approximately a $20 million investment for developer Burk Collins, but in his mind, there is no better place to spend his money. The Commons is about 70% pre-leased but the developer is in negotiations with other restaurants and retail stores. Developers hope to have the center open by Christmas 2007.
