01-08-07 The Fannin County Sheriff's Office honored one of their own Monday. Fellow deputies say Rahamy Mitchell was a father first and a proud community servant second.

A wreath now sits near the site where Deputy Mitchell was killed, along State Highway 11, near Bailey.

Initial reports from the Sheriff's Office say Mitchell was responding to a disturbance in Ladonia, when he hit a slick spot on the road causing a one car collision. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Friends say the 38 year old deputy graduated from Sherman High School and was a member of the Bearkat football team. He served in the Marines in the late 1980's, before becoming a Sheriff's Deputy six years ago.

"He commanded respect by his mere presence, his physical presence but when he spoke you were somewhat surprised to listen to the softness as he spoke and you could tell he spoke from the heart," said Sheriff Kenneth Moore.

Friends say Deputy Mitchell's first priority was being a dad to his 16 year old son, Kiefer.

The Sheriff's Office is in the process of setting up a fund for the Mitchell family.
