DURANT, OK-A Durant man claims his identity was stolen when he applied for a job at a local company. Now he wants answers. The victim says he never got the job but another man did using *his name, social security number, and birthday. Rita Kotey has the story.

This is James Matthew Chandler and this is a man who claims to be Matthew James Chandler. Both men applied to work at J-C- Potter sausage company. James Chandler was given paper work that shows this man applied for the job using his name, social security number, and birthday.

"We got a letter in the mail from DHS saying that our food benefits would be cut off if we didn't give them the information about my employment status and how much I was making," James Chandler said.

But Chandler says he never got the job so he knew something was wrong. Turns out, Matthew Chandler had been an employee at J-C- Potters for months. Chandler believes the man may be an illegal alien using his information to live in Durant.

Chandler and his wife contacted Durant police and the Sheriff’s Office and filed a report, but law enforcement says now there is little they can do.

"Police officers told a lady there to not say anything to the guy so that they could come back and arrest him. But as soon as he came into work they told him and he left," Chandler said.

Chandler says so far he does not believe the identity theft has affected his credit but he is just glad they found out before any real damage was done. He says he hopes this does not prevent him from getting a job in the future.

"I would like for them company to see if anybody else has been a victim of identity theft," James’s wife Jennifer said.

"I just wish they would do something so that people like me can get a job,” Chandler said.

Officials with J.C. Potter denied comment about the incident.
