1-12-07 A dilapidated railroad bridge that has stood since 1936 is starting to cause some concerns about safety in the city of Bells. With talks of a proposed coal-burning power plant in Savoy, traffic along the troubled bridge becomes a problem. If the proposed coal-burning power plant is approved, 120-car trains full of coal will be traveling through Bells. The tracks they have to travel on worry many of those that live in the city. The railroad bridge goes over Highway 69 as cars approach downtown Bells. City officials say that concerns over the bridge started to come in about six months ago and have continued ever since. The city has since called TXDOT and the Texas Northeast Railroad Company, the owner of the railroad, to see if the bridge poses any problems. City officials got the ok, but are still unsure of its stability.
