Parcells Resigns From Cowboys

After keeping the Cowboys waiting for a couple of weeks, Bill Parcells has told them he is no longer interested in being their coach.

The 65-year-old Parcells is retiring with one year remaining on his contract.

The 2006 season was a real rollercoaster ride for the veteran coach. First he had to deal with the club's offseason acquisition of Terrell Owens and the subsequent attention the wide receiver attracts. Then he replaced veteran quarterback DrewBledsoe with an untested Tony Romo, who shined at first, but slumped as the season wore on.

Parcells' announcement comes 15 days after the Cowboys' season
ended with a heartbreaking playoff loss in Seattle. He'd been at
his office nearly every day since, and there were other indications
that the 65-year-old coach was returning for a fifth year in Dallas
and 20th as an NFL head coach.

He went 34-and-32 with the Cowboys, including a pair of postseason losses.
