The Bryan County Jail could soon be getting some good news in the form of some money. It’s all part of a possible agreement between the Bryan County Public Facilities Authority and four local banks.
Two weeks ago, temporary jail administrator Donna Hutchinson asked the county for $110,000 to help the jail get through this fiscal year. She received only half of that amount from the county's general fund, but could receive more in the next week.
District 1 commissioner Monty Montgomery met Wednesday afternoon with presidents of four banks in the county to try and renegotiate a loan that the county incurred after renovations were made to jail a couple of years ago.
Right now the public facilities authority pays $28,000 a month on the loan and figure which Montgomery would like to reduce to $10,000 and use the extra money to help the jail through this fiscal year and beyond.
"I think that would be real good news and something the people of this county would be proud of, they would be proud to get that news," says Montgomery.
No formal agreement has been reached, but official word should come by the beginning of next week.
