WHITEWRIGHT, TX -- One person was killed in a fiery crash Tuesday afternoon in Whitewright.
Investigators say a farm truck heading south on U.S. Highway 69 signaled it was turning left onto Milo Road around 2 p.m. when a beer delivery truck driver failed to see the turning farm truck and slammed into the back of that vehicle.
The cab of the beer delivery truck then caught fire and exploded some time after it struck the farm truck. Firefighters say the driver, 47-year-old Jay Gregory Renfro of Sherman, never made it out of the truck.
“It appears that the driver of truck #2 just failed to see the truck signal probably and just didn't stop, didn't apply the brakes. On impact, the cab of truck #2 did catch on fire and there is one confirmed fatality," Tammy Henderson of the Whitewright Fire Department said.
The driver of the farm truck walked away from the accident, but was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.
There were no passengers involved. No names have been released at this time.
