The Durant City Airport could be getting a new terminal. That's if the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission is able to convince the state to give money to city airports.
Its all part of a three phase proposal by the Aeronautics Commission. Officials with the commission are asking airports from around the state if they need any help upgrading their facilities. Phase one targets airport terminals.
The Terminal at Eaker Field has been there for over thirty years and approximately 10-20 airplanes pass through per day.
"Airports are fast becoming the gateway to the world and for this community and the upgrading of airports are sorely needed," says Jerry Yandell, Durant Director of Public Works.
The Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission plans to present their proposal to the state legislature this session. City officials believe the new terminal will cost 1.2 million dollars.
