Former Firefighter Charged in Trooper Shooting

1-5-04 - A former Duncan firefighter was arraigned Monday for the murder of an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper. Rick Ray Malone is charged with killing Trooper Nikky Green on December 26th in Cotton County. Malone's preliminary hearing is set March 8th. He was arrested December 28th on a drug charge. Authorities later announced he was the chief suspect in Green's death. Green was investigating a suspicious car on a rural road when he was killed. A video camera in Green's patrol car captured the image of a white four door car that the suspect was driving. Tammy Sturdevant, Malone's sister, reported the car stolen several hours after Green was found. Sturdevant is one of four people arrested last week as material witnesses.
