A Carter County teenager is recovering Monday after he accidentally shot himself in his rural Lone Grove home. Police were called to Mercy Memorial Hospital around 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
They say the 13-year-old was playing with a .38 special revolver when it went off in his hand. The boy's mother was home at the time. She rushed him to the hospital where he was treated and released.
Police say the teenager told them he got the gun from another teen in Ardmore over the weekend. Lone Grove Police Chief Robert Oldham said the gun's serial number had been ground off, making tracing where the gun came from harder to determine.
The case has been turned over to the District Attorney and Office of Juvenile Affairs. Ardmore Police are helping Lone Grove investigate where the teen got the gun.
