ARDMORE, OK -- Todd Lamb has been a Senator in Oklahoma since 2004. Now he's running for Lieutenant Governor. One of the many things he wants to reform is education.

Oklahoma is one of the lowest ranked states in the country when it comes to education. Todd Lamb says he wants to change that, and it's one the many reasons he wants to be the next Lt. Governor.

"We need to continue to educate our kids and often times after they get their degrees they go south they go north, they go east, they go west. We want to bring them back home," says Lamb, the Senate's majority floor leader.

"You have to have an educated workforce.”

Lamb says another key component on his platform is to make Oklahoma a more "business friendly" state.

"We finally have some arrows in our economic development quiver to have a competitive environment with businesses that want to relocate to the Midwest and say hey you know what let's go north of the Red River instead of south of the Red River."

When it comes to public policy, Lamb acknowledges that Oklahoma's neighbor to the south ranks higher than Oklahoma in many categories. He uses a sports analogy as to how he wants to change that.

"We don't allow any coaches when we compete against Texas to make excuses if they get beat by Texas. We've allowed that with public officials and public policy for far too long. As Lieutenant Governor, I want to champion our state and have no excuses and start beating Texas in something besides football, basketball, and baseball," Lamb says.

Lamb says he believes Oklahoma needs to use its natural resources, such as natural gas, to remain competitive on the energy front.

"If the country is dependent upon natural gas, that's good for Oklahoma. The more of the world that's dependent upon natural gas, that's great for Oklahoma."

The other announced GOP candidates for lieutenant governor are state Rep. Colby Schwartz of Yukon and state Rep. John Wright of Broken Arrow. Democratic state Sen. Kenneth Corn also is running for the office.

Lamb is and is the fourth candidate to announce for the job being vacated by Democrat Jari Askins. Askins is running for governor.
