Sherman Murder Suspect Awaiting Trial

Michael Dwayne Kimmel, a murder suspect who was on the run for three weeks, is awaiting trial. Kimmel is accused of shooting Jerry White after an argument outside of Brooks Manor apartment complex in Sherman in 2005.

Police say after an intense search and a written confession to the crime, Kimmel was arrested in Fort Worth. Kimmel claims he shot White in self-defense.

District officials sat the firearm used is undergoing additional forensic testing.

No trial date has been set. If convicted, Kimmel could serve life in prison.
