A petition to put the future of the Marshall County Inmate Work Center in the hands of voters has fallen short.
The Madill City Clerk says Lloyd Eppler did not get enough signatures to validate the petition.
Eppler thought he only needed eight percent of the turnout from the last election, but the clerk says he needed 25%. Eppler came up 200 signatures short.
In early January, the city council gave the department of corrections the green light to build a one-hundred-bed inmate work center on the Madill Industrial Foundation Track just east of town.
