Local Soldiers Volunteering for War on Terror

1-6-04 - Fifteen southern Oklahoma soldiers are preparing to go overseas to fight the War on Terror in Afghanistan. 300 soldiers from the 45th Infantry Brigade have been deployed to support and protect other soldiers who've been training the Afghan National Army since October. But with the country's first-ever democratic elections coming up in June, the US military is hoping to be more safe than sorry. Almost 100 soldiers from the 180th, from places like Ada, Durant, and McAlester have volunteered for the mission. At least fifteen of them will be selected. Soldiers selected for this mission should know their status by next week. Most will be used as specialists and support staff.
