Texoma Election Preview

02-12-07 Monday kicked off election filings across Texas, as potential candidates turned in their paperwork. In Oklahoma, the filing deadlines have passed, and other elections will be held Tuesday.

SOTC officials are asking voters to approve the property tax increase to allow them to expand their student population by 33 percent.

The following towns in Oklahoma are holding school board elections Tuesday:

Carter Co.
Ardmore Public Schools
Johnston Co.
Mill Creek
Tishomingo Public Schools
Love Co.
Turner Public Schools

The polls open at 7am Tuesday.

Here are the positions filed for in Sherman:

Sherman Mayor's Race: Bill Magers
At-large, Place 1: Steve Jonse
At-large, Place 2: Cary Wacker (incumbent)

In Denison, Place 4 and Place 6 are open. Incumbents Malone Williams and Mike Broyles are not eligible for re-election.

Denison city officials say Jim McClure is the only person who has filed for office. McClure is a Denison native and runs an insurance agency in Denison.

The City of Bonham discussed their elections protocol at a city council meeting Monday night.

In Bryan County, eight municipalities have positions open for their city councils. Election day is April 3rd. The deadline to file for office has already passed.
