02-21-07 TCOG officials say it has taken years of effort, but Wednesday they finally broke ground on some new accommodations for senior citizens.
Four duplexes are set to be built on a site in Van Alstyne.
Construction started following a push from HUD, the city of Van Alstyne and Texoma Housing Partners.
Back in 2004, 6 duplexes were demolished on the same site due to structural problems, but HUD officials say Wednesday's groundbreaking means the piece of property will get another chance for a new life.
Frances Pelley, TCOG's Executive Director said, "That's what this will be it'll be a special senior housing for those residents that we owe everything to, that greatest generation."
In all, four duplexes are set to be built on the site.
Officials say you can call 211 for information on how to apply for the senior housing.
