DURANT, OK -- A Durant High School teacher was honored Monday as Bryan County Teacher of the Year. Now Stacy Culbreath Shepherd will head to Oklahoma City on Tuesday as a finalist for Oklahoma Teacher of the Year.

Shepherd was as presented with her favorite flavors of ice cream, courtesy of Blue Bell to share with faculty, flowers and many congratulations from students and teachers.

The ninth grade English and Choctaw Language teacher was chosen for being an outstanding educator and possessing a pioneering spirit. She says it's an honor to be named as teacher of the year.

"It is just the most awesome experience anytime you are awarded by your peers, and there are so many other teachers at this school that should be sitting in my position," Shepherd said.
