Presidential Candidate Stumping in Durant

1-28-04 - Oklahoma is in the sights of democrats running for president this week. The Presidential Preference Primary is less than a week away. On Wednesday, Senator John Edwards stopped in Durant, which was his second visit to the city in the last three months. His November visit was the first by a major presidential candidate since Ruben Askew in 1984. Edwards is coming off a tie for 4th place finish in New Hampshire, but is hoping for a rebound in states like Missouri, Arizona, South Carolina, New Mexico, Delaware and North Dakota on Tuesday. Today he told the Durant audience that he must win the South Carolina primary if he's going to win the Democratic presidential nomination. Edwards, a North Carolina senator who was born in South
Carolina, says his showings in Iowa and New Hampshire have given him momentum.
In the Iowa caucuses, Edwards was second to John Kerry of Massachusetts.
