Second Man Arrested in Gainesville Murder

1-30-04 - Gainesville police have made a second arrest in the shooting death of 20-year-old Christopher Riley.

The young man was gunned down last summer after confronting an old friend. Authorities arrested Bill Cason Thursday night and charged him with murder.

It’s the second arrest in this case. In December, Floyd Jason Gilpin turned himself in. He was apparently the person Riley went to confront. The shooting happened early on the morning of July 7, after an argument. According to police, Riley was among three men who drove to a residence in the 100 block of Harvey Street to possibly confront someone.

But when the men tried to drive away, shots were fired at the car and hit all three. Riley died from his injuries while his two friends recovered. Police aren’t commenting about Cason’s role in the killing.
