CANEY, OK -- The Oklahoma Highway Patrol helicopter and search dogs were called to Atoka County to search for a man who hit his wife in the head with a gun Thursday morning.

Authorities say Lon Adam Smith struck his wife in the head with the gun at their home just outside the Caney city limits around 8 a.m., and then ran into the woods carrying the weapon. Officials say when they executed a search warrant at the house, they also found drugs.

The manhunt ended about four hours later when OHP search dogs found Smith. He was booked into the Atoka County Jail facing charges including assault and battery with a deadly weapon and possession of marijuana.
