Mistrial Declared in Shooting of 12 year old

2-4-04 - It was a crime that shocked the small town of Marietta, Oklahoma. But trial for one of the men accused of shooting a 12 year old boy was stopped, thanks to two jurors who hadn’t been totally truthful. The story began last spring, when 12 year old Jacob Ayers was shot in the head while his parents served court papers. Ricky Rawlins Junior is accused of three counts of shooting with the intent to kill. He’s actually the second person to go to trial in this case – his father was the first. But Tuesday a judge declared a mistrial because officials found out two jurors had relatives that had been prosecuted for other crimes. Those jurors were specifically asked that question during jury selection. A new trial for Rawlins Jr. is set for April 13th.
