While Texans battle flu season, Lake Texoma officials are working to prevent an infection of a different kind.
Officials say zebra mussels were first discovered in 2001. It was roughly six months ago the tiny organisms almost made their way to Lake Texoma.
Biologists say once these clam-like creatures infest an area, they can clog boat filters and kill of nutrients in the water.
Officials say if you go boating on lakes the mussels are believed to inhabit, wash your boat thoroughly before boating elsewhere.
