02-07-04-- An $80 million school bond in Melissa, Texas passed Saturday with more than 50 percent of the vote. The bond will help pay for a new high school and could go toward making improvements on other schools in the district.
The community, nestled along Hwy 75 just south of Grayson County, is one of the fastest-growing areas in North Texas.
Saturday's bond is the highest-ever for the small community. It could also help pay for three new elementary schools and a new football stadium.
359 people voted for the bond; 115 against. The bond will likely mean the average homeowner in Melissa will see a $162 increase a year in taxes.
