Jury Selection Continues in Nichols' Trial

(McAlester-AP) -- Potential jurors in the state murder trial of Terry Nichols are being questioned one by one today in the judges chamber. The prosecution, defense attorneys, and Nichols are all present. About 150 potential jurors filled Judge Steven Taylor's Pittsburgh County courtroom yesterday before all but 42 were temporarily dismissed.

Those who remained are being called one at a time into Taylor's chambers and asked if they have an opinion about the case and whether it would be a hardship to be on the jury. Fifteen of the 42 were dismissed yesterday afternoon. One prospective juror was arrested and charged with public intoxication after appearing unsteady and groggy when he returned from lunch. The jury selection process is expected to take around two weeks to complete.

Prosecutors say Nichols conspired with Timothy McVeigh to build the bomb that destroyed the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building and killed 168 people on April 19, 1995. Nichols' attorneys say there is evidence of a wider conspiracy and Nichols was set up by unknown conspirators to take the blame for the bombing.
