1-9-04 - It was a tragedy that shocked the community of Ardmore last summer. Three small children died in a house fire.

This week, their mother is on trial for leaving them home alone that night. Sarah Gannis faces nine counts of child endangerment, including three for the night of the fire. It was a case that has left plenty of questions. Gannis later told police she was next door visiting a neighbor when the fire, which probably started near the children's room, destroyed the home.

First news has learned prosecutors offered a plea bargain but both sides refused to comment on the details or why it was rejected. During Monday’s court proceedings, the entire day was spent on jury selection. Attorneys hope to proceed with opening arguments Tuesday morning.

If convicted, Gannis could face up to life in prison.
