(Ada, Houston-AP) -- Former Oklahoma and NFL running back James Allen faces a drunken driving charge in Ada, Oklahoma.

Police say Allen was arrested before dawn today after a routine traffic stop. The officer noticed the odor of alcohol in Allen's car and gave him a field sobriety test.

Allen played at OU from 1993 through 1996 then signed as a free agent with Tennessee. He spent four years with the Chicago Bears and one with the Houston Texans before retiring last August to pursue a music career.
