WNJ Expanding Emergency Room in Sherman

3-3-04 - Wilson N Jones Medical Center is expanding their Main Campus Emergency Center, as they make preperations to lease their North Campus into a rehabilitation center. Today the hospital announced that within a month, Wilson N. Jones Medical Center will have an additional seven beds available at the Main Campus Emergency Center on North Highland Avenue.
The plans for the expansion of the WNJ Main Campus ER have been approved by the State and construction is now well underway. The addition of the seven ER beds will give WNJ a total of 26 ER beds on the Main Campus.
“WNJ is fortunate that we have room to expand our present Main Campus ER space by relocating ED offices as well as our Hyperbaric treatment area adjacent to the ER to other locations on the Main Campus,” WNJ President & CEO Pat Flynn explained. “WNJ provides emergency care for over 46,000 patients a year and this expansion will allow us to better serve the needs of our patients and our staff.”
WNJ’s Hyperbaric & Wound Care Center has relocated to the ground floor of the Main Campus adjacent to the Cardiac Rehab area.
With the anticipated lease of the Wilson N. Jones North Campus to SeniorHealth, WNJ began making plans for the consolidation of emergency services to the Main Campus. Since 2001, the North Campus ER has provided care to non-urgent “walk-in” patients and all ambulances have come directly to the Main Campus ER.
The new Main Campus ER beds are scheduled to be in operation by March 31, and the North Campus ER will close as of midnight March 31. The staff from the North Campus ER will transfer to the Main Campus ER to help staff the additional beds and accommodate the additional patient volume.
Wilson N. Jones Medical Center is a full-service, not-for-profit medical center serving North Texas and Southern Oklahoma for over 75 years with 1,400 employees and 200 physicians, representing 37 medical specialties.
