Some cub scouts had their eyes on the checkered flag Saturday afternoon. The cub scouts in Calera held their 'cub-mobile' races. About twenty cubs raced in the wooden carts they constructed with their parents.
The first through third grade boys competed in the single elimination tournament. The cubs were launched from a wooden platform and let gravity take care of the rest.
"We had to use a saw to cut out the pieces of wood, use some air to fill up the tires, and we just put the thing together," said Eric Wilson, an eight-year-old participant.
A few of the cubs had a few scrapes and bruises from the races, but scout leaders say the event was a fun day for everyone.
