3-3-04 - It was quite a scare for folks in rural Fannin County north of Savoy Wednesday, when a natural gas pipeline exploded. The ten inch line ruptured just before noon in a rural pasture along FM 1753, creating a blast that was heard from miles away. Nine homes were evacuated, as the pipe, which was under 255 lbs of pressure, sent gas spewing into the air. A TXU crew managed to stop the flow a couple of hours later, but that also left local homeowners without gas service. Authorities allowed people to return home later in the day, but gas service may not be restored fully until Thursday. No word yet on why the line ruptured, but neighbors think it’s due to age.
