3-4-04 - Over a dozen horses starved to death in Murray County, and 28 more are in terrible shape. Now deputies blame it on their owner, a woman they claim hadn’t fed the animals for three months.

The sheriff says they’ve been dealing with Barbara Knight for months, amid complaints about 52 horses malnourished on 40 acres. But this week, a veterinarian declared the 28 survivors needed to be confiscated, so the Sheriff took action.

When a warrant was issued for her arrest, Knight fled her home, and hasn’t been seen since for three days. Neighbors have taken on the job of feeding the remaining horses. Knight faces several charges of animal cruelty. Her attorney says she will surrender soon.
