Allegations of Assault Against Pottsboro Sub

3-8-04 - A substitute teacher in the Pottsboro Independent School District is under investigation after allegations by several parents that he abused their 3rd grade children. Parents say the incident happened at the elementary school gym late last week, by a substitute physical education coach.

Parents of seven children say their kids were the victims of rough handling, including a kick to the ribs for one boy, and another who claims he was lifted up by the throat. Police began investigating the claims last Friday but will not release much information since the investigation is on-going.

One parent spoke to First News, saying her child has been damaged physically and emotionally by the incident. She says the children were playing when they were supposed to be sitting down. She says that’s when the teacher physically picked them up and separated them.

Right now the district is out for spring break, but we did speak with the school board president by phone. He says the district was notified about the incident last Friday and will discuss it at their school board meeting next Monday. Pottsboro police could complete their investigation as early as Friday.
