Teen Beaten Badly in Sherman

3-10-04 - A Van Alstyne teen was badly beaten Tuesday night in a Sherman parking lot. Police suspect other teens are responsible, part of a brawl that could be linked to a feud that began on the Internet.

It happened around 9 p.m. outside the New Life church on Travis Street. Dozens of teenagers from Van Alstyne and Denison high schools and the Texoma Christian School met for a fight. That's when a 16-year-old boy was attacked by several teens who punched and kicked him in the head and upper body. He was beaten so badly he had to be hospitalized and undergo surgery for a broken jaw.

Police believe this argument started Monday night over the Internet when two young men engaged in a war of words, supposedly over a girl.

After the fight, friends put the injured teen in a car and drove him to the Van Alstyne fire department. His mother told First News she is offering a $1,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest.
