Black and Blue Lessons for Ardmore PD

3-10-04 - Ardmore police officers may be black and blue after a tough training day - part of a citywide effort to improve their self-defense skills. All week long, the police department is putting its officers through an advanced training course for hand-to-hand combat. It's designed to help officers defend themselves when suspects resist or fight back.

For the Ardmore pd, this type of training is a first. In fact, it's the first self-defense training most of these officers have seen since going through the police academy. Officials say they began the course simply because too many officers were getting injured while making arrests.

Every officer in the department will be required to complete the training course. The department plans on having refresher training to keep officer skills sharp.
