03-12-04 - It’s a murder that goes back to 1995. Seventeen-years-old at the time, Anzel Jones murdered his neighbor, Sherry Kay Jones, and then sexually assaulted his victim’s 76-year-old mother. He left both to die as he set the house on fire.

Jones was convicted of these crimes in 1996 and has sat on death row for the past seven years. But now his date with death has been stayed thanks to the U.S. Supreme Court, since Jones was a juvenile offender at the time of the crime. Paris police say it is one of the most brutal crimes they have ever seen. Anzel Jones was set to die on April 29th but his appeals put that execution on hold.

The final ruling by the Supreme Court is not expected until July of 2005.
