GAINESVILLE- The suspect who lead police on a chase through Denton and Cooke Counties Tuesday night, then shot himself in the head, died Wednesday from his injuries.

Police say it all began Tuesday evening when Lewisville PD alerted Denton Police that Jessie Douglas Guyden III of Lewisville, a sexual assault suspect, was on the loose, possibly in Denton County.

Police say Guyden may have been following the victim, his girlfriend, to the hospital.

They say a witness called 911 reporting that they saw the suspect’s SUV headed toward Denton Regional Medical Center.

Police tell us when Guyden reached the hospital parking lot he opened fire from the SUV, shooting multiple rounds over his shoulder.

They say he then took off headed North on I-35, he exited the interstate, drove down the access road, skidded to a stop and got out of the SUV.

Police say they saw that he was armed when he walked into a nearby IHOP. They say he took one IHOP employee hostage for a brief time, let him go, then shot himself in the head inside the restaurant.

Guyden did not kill himself and was taken to a local hospital, then flown by helicopter to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, where he died Wednesday.
