Car Accident Turns Into "Ice" Bust in Sherman

2-23-04 - A quick-thinking Sherman officer turned a fender bender on US 75 in Sherman into a drug bust Monday morning. At 11:11 am, Sherman Police received a call of an accident in the north bound lane of US Highway 75, near the Houston Street overpass. Officer Mark McRee arrived at the single car accident which involved a rental car from the Dallas area, but noticed that the vehicle occupants gave conflicting stories. He discovered a bag outside of the vehicle that appeared to be connected with one of the occupants. The bag contained drug paraphernalia. Officer McRee asked for consent to search the vehicle and its contents, but was denied by one of the occupants. A SPD K9 unit was called in which later alerted on the vehicle and a bag inside the vehicle. Search warrants were obtained for the vehicle and this bag with the assistance of SPD narcotics officers. A subsequent search of the bag revealed 12 oz. of suspected “ice” – a form of methamphetamine. This has a street value of over $50,000. Casey Hurn Stone, a 29 year old white male from Dallas was arrested and charged with several felonies.
