(Oklahoma City-AP) -- A state Senate committee approved a bill
Monday that's intended to reduce the production of methamphetamine.
The bill makes medicines that contain pseudoephedrine a regulated, Schedule Five substance that can only be sold by a licensed pharmacy. The person buying the tablets would have to produce a photo ID and signature.
The bill also limits the amount of pseudoephedrine a person can
possess to nine grams, or about ten boxes of cold tablets.
Pseudoephedrine is a common cold and sinus medication and is a
prime ingredient in manufacturing methamphetamine. The Senate Business and Labor Committee approved the bill on a 10 to 1 vote, sending it to the full Senate for consideration.
The bill is being called the Nik Green Act after State Trooper Nik Green, who was shot to death December 26th. Police say Green was killed by a man making methamphetamine on the side of a Cotton County road.
