2-25-04 - It's being called the most anticipated movie in years, and today The Passion of the Christ debuted around the world. A First News Crew was among a group who saw a preview of the movie on Tuesday at Durant's Twin Cinema. The Mel Gibson movie is rated R, and for good reason. It depicts the last 12 hours of Jesus Christ's life, showing scenes of violence, suffering, torture, and finally crucifixion.
There has been plenty of controversy surrounding the film. Critics charge it is anti-semitic, anti-italian and historically inaccurate. But our news crew brought along Pastor Chet Haney from the Parkside Baptist Church in Denison. He said the movie is true to the gospel and is a moving experience. Church groups purchased thousands of tickets for the Wednesday premiere.
