TRENTON TX-- In an age where the internet can be accessed through smart phones, from anywhere at any time A small town newspaper has continued to operate, swimming against the tide of technology, informing Fannin County residents of the news and events around them; just as they have since 1909.

In 1909 William Howard Taft was the president of the United States, Henry Ford had just introduced his Model T, and the Trenton Tribune was printing all the news of Fannin County and the World.

A century of progress and tragedy war and peace, printed in black and white, one copy at a time.

"You just take it from day to day, and I guess that is the way it has always been for a hundred years," said Tom Holmes. He has kept the paper, started by his Grandfather, alive and well, well into the digital age.

Today on the 100th anniversary of the very first issue, those ten decades of work are being recognized.

"It is wonderful that this community has a newspaper that is focused on it," said State Representative Larry Phillips.

Tom Holmes and the Trenton Tribune where honored today by state and local leaders, presented with plaques and decrees, but for Holmes the recognition isn't just about newspapers past it is a road sign for the future.

"The rewards that I have received today, I feel humbled and it tells me that we are going in the right direction," said Holmes.

The Paper has covered some of the most important events in Human history, two world wars, the great depression, and the first time a man walked on the moon.

All of that history hasn't left much time for folks at the tribune to take a break.

"You don’t get much of a vacation when you have to get a paper out every week and you are the only one doing it," said Holmes.

There will be another edition out next week, so while there still won’t be time for a vacation, but there will be readers who read the paper over a cup of coffee, just as there have been for a hundred years.

"They are one of the things that make Fannin County great and I know that Fannin County and the State of Texas wishes them a happy birthday," said Phillips.
