SHERMAN, TX -- An accident caused quite a traffic tie-up in Sherman Thursday evening, and shut down a heavily traveled road.

Sherman Fire officials say a semi truck headed east on Taylor Street, hauling an oversize load hit a phone and cable line.

Witnesses say that pulled the entire pole out of the ground, draping the lines across the road.

A Ford Focus headed west on Taylor ran over the lines, which tangled in the wheels of the car, spinning it around. The Focus was then hit by the SUV behind it.

"Upon arrival of our first engine company, we found not only some downed wires but a downed pole across Taylor Street and it appeared to be a motor vehicle accident along with that," said Battalion Chief Bill Macon, with Sherman Fire Department.

One person was taken to Wilson N. Jones for minor injuries, and Taylor Street was shut down. Phone service was also knocked out to some customers for a time.
