Durant, OK--Fire tears through a Durant family's home around 6:30 p.m. Monday evening. According to authorities, the fire caused several thousand dollars worth of damage, but Firefighters did manage to save the family dog.
Durant firefighters say smoke was visible when they arrived at the 900 Block of Alabama Street. No one was home at the time so D.F.D. had to force their way through the front door. Crews contained the fire to a bedroom within about 15 minutes, but it's estimated the entire house suffered about $20,000 in heat and smoke damage.
As firefighters were containing the flames a small dog ran back inside the house.

"The dog was in the back yard and we opened up the rear portion of the structure the dog made its way inside of the house so we had to corner the dog and do a dog rescue,” says Steve Stafford, Durant Crew Chief.

Authorities say they don't believe the fire to be suspicious, but the fire marshal is expected to begin a follow up investigation on Tuesday to determine the exact cause.
